Panasonic, a major developer and contributor to the success of the Blu-ray format, recently introduced the successors to last year’s award winning DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55 players, as well as presenting the world’s first Blu-ray-VHS dual player. All three of the new Blu-ray players – DMP-BD60, DMP-BD80, DMP-BD70V – combine high quality images with enhanced networking functions, including VIERA Cast’s improved internet functionality that provides access to Amazon VOD’s huge selection of titles. Continuing its commitment to producing products that stress ease of use, the 2009 line of Blu-ray Disc™ players continue to incorporate VIERA Link™, allowing the consumer to operate their audio/video components, via HDMI, with one remote. And, in keeping with Panasonic’s pledge to reduce the planet’s carbon footprint, the new Blu-ray players have been designed to reduce power consumption. Apple announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program.

Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock. We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.

Continuing to push the boundaries of high-power radio frequency (RF) technology, Freescale Semiconductor has unveiled the world’s first 50-volt LDMOS RF power transistor line-up for L-Band radar applications. The line-up is ideal for a wide range of high-power RF applications including air traffic management and long range weather radar.

The RF product line includes the MRF6V14300H final stage device and the MRF6V10010N driver. The MRF6V14300H produces pulsed RF output power of 330 W at frequencies between 1200 and 1400 MHz and sets new standards for efficiency, gain and thermal resistance at this power level and frequency when compared to competing bipolar and field-effect transistor (FET) devices.

“With our new RF portfolio announcement, we now demonstrate the capability of 50V LDMOS for avionics and radar applications at the L-Band frequency of 1.2 – 1.4 GHz,” said Gavin Woods, vice president and general manager of Freescale’s RF Division. “Not only have we leveraged the exceptional capabilities of Freescale’s LDMOS technology, we also have set new RF performance standards in several key figures of merit.”

NVIDIA have posted a video comparing the performance, size and power consumption of their ARM11™ MPCore™ processor-based Tegra computer on a chip, with the equivalent Intel solution.

The results illustrate that the Tegra solution is one tenth of the size and one tenth of the power consumption of the Intel solution, while playing high definition video, compared to the Intel solution playing standard definition video.

Opera Software announced that the Opera 9.5 SDK for Devices has been ported to Sony’s new digital photo frame VGF-CP1. With the WiFi-enabled device, users can now retrieve photos not only from their PC or memory card, but also from online image portals such as Google’s photo album, and Photozou.

Intel Corporation and Micron Technology Inc. today unveiled a high speed NAND flash memory technology that can greatly enhance the access and transfer of data in devices that use silicon for storage. The new technology – developed jointly by Intel and Micron and manufactured by the companies’ NAND flash joint venture, IM Flash Technologies (IMFT) – is five times faster than conventional NAND, allowing data to be transferred in a fraction of the time for computing, video, photography and other computing applications.
