NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, today announced the landmark shipment of its two billionth automotive transceiver, reaffirming its leadership position in the automotive networking market. Building on 15 years of experience in automotive networking, NXP continues to collaborate with industry leaders to enable automobile manufacturers to push down overall network costs while driving up system performance, communication speeds, quality and reliability.
“NXP’s landmark shipment of transceivers for automotive networking echoes the importance of efficient and intelligent communications among automotive components to deliver on the paramount need for safety, comfort and entertainment in cars,” said Paul van der Plas, general manager automotive business line, NXP Semiconductors.
In the 1980s, Bosch developed the CAN protocol which is now the most widely used communications standard for vehicles today. Since 1994, NXP has been closely working with Bosch and introduced high-speed CAN transceivers that have dramatically enhanced user interaction with the car. Both companies will continue to drive the automotive networking industry forward through newer protocols such as FlexRay, which are enabling active safety and other innovations in the car.
NXP produces more than a million automotive transceivers every day, catering to the growing demand of advanced automotive networking solutions from around the world. NXP has taken the lead in providing these best-in-class solutions and driving standardization across the industry through its work with the FlexRay Consortium and a number of partners, who have driven innovation in the industry.
NXP released its second generation of Fault Tolerant CAN and LIN transceivers last year, and is currently developing its third generation of CAN transceivers. NXP is increasing investments in mixed-signal products, addressing the trend towards integration and developing a new generation of FlexRay transceivers. With these developments, NXP is committed to addressing the future needs of its customers, who continue to seek solutions that offer both price / performance and innovation, and enable greener cars with increased fuel and energy efficiency.
