At Computex 2010, AMD (NYSE: AMD) delivered the first public demonstration of an AMD Fusion processor, initiating the accelerated processing era. The AMD Fusion™ Family of Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) represents a significant shift in processor architecture and capabilities, combining high-performance serial computing and parallel graphics processing cores onto a single die to improve visual and data-intensive tasks that are pervasive in today’s computing environments. In conjunction with their annual Google I/O event, Google has announced the next release of the Android 2.2 platform. This latest release includes a large number of significant enhancements that further exploit the underlying ARM® architecture to improve performance and functionality. The latest release includes Google’s new Dalvik Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler that generates native Thumb®-2 code. The new ARM targeted JIT technology coupled with the code density advantages of the Thumb-2 instruction set provides a significant performance boost to the Dalvik Java application framework, resulting in improved application performance of up to two to five times and therefore even greater battery life.

Panasonic, announces the introduction of the anticipated DMP-BD50, Panasonic’s third generation Blu-ray disc player – the ultimate playback source for high definition 1080p content. Blu-ray media offers a wide range of functions that foster the transition to HD – including 1080p image quality, lossless Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ and versatile Picture-in-Picture applications. The BD50 adds the new BD-Live function, which uses the internet to further enhance the consumer’s entertainment experience and employs VIERA Link,™ a technology that allows the consumer to operate VIERA Link equipped home theater components with a single remote. The DMP-BD50 will be available this spring and will have an SRP of $699.95.
